The June 3 Peoria Journal Star Story about the Gypsy Coeds and the Silver Streak raised the general awareness, and brought a call to the Peoria Journal Star reporter who wrote the story, Scott Hilyard. Her name is Jean Turnbull Campbell. She was originally from Speer Illinois. In 1942 she accompanied her good friend Margaret Burnett, Darlene and Marge Dorgan on a short trip to Chicago in the summer of 1942. Jean lives on the North side of Peoria, recalls sleeping on the beach of Lake Michigan in downtown Chicago and wishes she would have been able to go on other trips. She celebrated her 93 birthday in August.
Regina Fennell Butte telling her memories of the 1939 Trip to the New York World Fair. The audio of her recollections can be found under Regina Fennell under the heading Gyspycoeds
By Labor Day the Silver Streak will have a new radiator. It will have more cooling capacity…much better for parades!
