The Gypsy Coeds

Here is where you can get information about the adventurous girls who traveled in the Silver Streak, “The Gypsy Coeds”.  For 8 summers over 9 years various combinations of 20 adventurous young women packed themselves and some belongings into a 1926 Model T Touring Car, called the Silver Streak and headed out to various destinations in North America.  Most of these 20 girls were from the community of Bradford Illinois or from surrounding communities & farming areas in Stark County.   A true sisterhood developed among the girls, particularly the ones with roots back to Bradford.  They viewed proudly their membership in this select group called Gypsy Coeds.  They held reunions and retold many stories from their different trips. Reference to the Gypsy Coeds and the Silver Streak showed up in at least four of their obituaries.   Those of us close to one or more of these gals heard the stories countless times.  Some of the highlights will be captured here from family members who have heard the stories over the years. Here is a list of the trips and the girls that went on each trip:
