Marge Dorgan
Marge was the youngest of Bill and Daisy Dorgan’s five daughters, Gladys, Mable, Darlene, Verna and Margorie. Unlike the older siblings who went to Bradford High School, Marge (Margie) went to a boarding school in Clinton, Iowa “Our Lady of Angels Academy”, and then to Mount St. Claire College also in Clinton where she studied journalism. It was here that she made the acquaintance of Patricia Moffett of Gilson, Illinois, who would join the Gypsy Coeds on the 1940 trip to California. While Marge never fulfilled her dream of becoming a journalist, she did write some of the early newspaper articles about the Silver Streak and the Gypsy Coeds. She would stay in Bradford and help run the family business, Dorgans Confectionery with her sister Verna until it was destroyed by fire in 1974. Marge and Verna then managed a laundromat in Bradford. Marge never married. Over the years she became known very much as one of the “town characters” following in the footsteps of her father. She died in July 1998.
